Dexter A. Johnson left this world unexpectedly on Thursday, May 25, 2023, in Elkhorn, WI. Born on July 23, 1995, in Libertyville, IL, Dexter was the beloved son of David Johnson and Linda (Bocanegra) Johnson. His time on earth was marked by tireless dedication to autism research and advocacy, as he strived to broaden understanding and raise awareness about this complex condition. Dexter's commitment was exemplified through his active participation in numerous studies aimed at advancing knowledge in the field.
An immensely gifted and imaginative soul, Dexter enjoyed finding solace and self-expression through painting, and the outdoors drew him to spend hours walking amidst nature, finding inspiration in its tranquility. He also enjoyed paintball, basketball, BMXing, bowling, and axe throwing, and engaged in rigorous workouts. In addition, he enjoyed journaling, listening to music and playing drums, guitar, and trumpet. He was shy of a few credits from achieving an associate degree in sustainable energy.
Dexter's thoughts and ideas constantly challenged conventional thinking and pushed the boundaries of human perception. He possessed a brilliant mind that refused to be confined by conventional limitations. His intellectual curiosity knew no bounds, and he fearlessly sought to disrupt traditional modes of thinking.
Dexter's memory will forever be cherished by his loving parents, Linda (Bocanegra) Johnson and David Johnson, as well as his dear sisters, Sarah (Lukas) Baca, and Shannon. He also leaves behind a legacy of love and inspiration to his six nieces and nephews: Antonio, Alina, Marcus, Emoni, Dustin, and Anthony, and his grandmother, Lorry Johnson, along with numerousaunts, uncles, extended family members, and friends.
Preceding Dexter in death are his grandparents: Richard Johnson, Eriberta and Atonasio Bocanegra, as well as his two siblings: Manley Blanton and Courtney Johnson.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Dexter’s honor on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Southwind Prairie Clubhouse at 775 Southwind Dr, Lake Geneva, WI from 11 AM – 2 PM. This will provide an opportunity for all who knew him to gather and pay tribute to his remarkable journey. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to an autism research site of your choice.
