Richard “Rick” A. Schoultz, 74 of Elkhorn and Minocqua, WI, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at his home.  He was born April 19, 1948 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of the late Sylvester and Florence (Novotny) Schoultz.  Rick graduated from Elkhorn Area High School with the Class of 1966.  He was united in marriage to Bonnie Linse on November 4, 1972 in Elkhorn, WI.  Rick was a member of Sugar Creek Lutheran Church. Strong in his faith, he never wished his pain and suffering on anybody.  In their early 50’s, Rick and his brother Tom were diagnosed with cancer.  Tom passed away in 1999.  Rick’s stage 4 kidney cancer over the years advanced to his adrenal glands, lung, head and his bones.

Rick began his electrical apprenticeship with Local Union 600 of Lake Geneva, later merging with Local Union 890 of Janesville.  He went to work at General Motors in 1983 as an electrical instructor 2nd shift retiring in 2008.  During this time, he also started Schoultz Electric working days.  He achieved a Master Electrician and Inspector License and later an Electrical Designing Engineer License. Keeping them current with continuing education.

Always taking time on the weekends for his family water skiing, boating, camping or snow skiing.  They built several houses for themselves, family, and friends.  Rick always had a garden and enjoyed watching things grow.

In between many surgeries and treatments, they were blessed to travel to 83 countries by cruising, bus trips, or out on their own. Later exploring 48 national parks on road trips in the U.S. Always adventurous, Rick enjoyed scuba diving and flying Cessna’s working on his pilot’s license in the mid 80’s.  A motorcycle was a part of his whole life while making one out of a lawn mower engine at 10 years old to Harleys later on.

They were able to travel to South Padre Island, Texas for 14 winters.  He cherished the friendships he made there with people from all over the country.  The past 10 summers and falls were spend up north fishing and canoeing on lakes he had enjoyed since he was 5 years old.  He was happiest watching the deer and sunsets from his backyard campfire.

Rick is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Bonnie, their two children: Cathy Masters of MI and Craig (Elaina) Schoultz of Lake Geneva, WI, and two grandchildren: Megan Masters and Lily Schoultz.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Thomas Schoultz.
